Travelling abroad

A beneficiary of subsidiary protection can travel abroad. To this end, he needs a valid passport and the required visa for the country he wishes to travel to. If he/she does not have a passport, the Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs will provide him/her with a “foreigner passport”, but only after he/she has been authorised to stay for an unlimited period of time.

A beneficiary of subsidiary protection should be aware that travelling to his country of origin is liable to put his protection status into question, for such travelling could imply that the circumstances which justified his/her subsidiary protection no longer exist or that subsidiary protection has been granted on the basis of false statements.
