Family reunification: procedure that enables a foreign national, for instance a recognised refugee or a beneficiary of subsidiary protection status, to bring certain members of his/her family to Belgium under certain conditions. Family reunification applications are processed by the Immigration Department.
Foreigner’s passport: document issued by the provincial authorities to foreigners who are staying in Belgium for an unlimited period of time, concretely to beneficiaries of subsidiary protection status from the moment they are granted the right of permanent residence, and with which they can travel abroad.
Full jurisdiction appeal: appeal lodged with the Council for alien law litigation against a decision of the CGRS, with the exception of the refusal to consider an application for asylum made by a national of the European Union. In the framework of this appeal the Council for alien law litigation pronounces on all elements of the application and on the request for asylum. However, it can also annul the decision of the CGRS and return the case file for a new examination and a new decision. This appeal is suspensive, i.e. the asylum seeker cannot be forced to return or be removed during the appeal investigation.
