Asylum statistics of January 2012

The CGRS has published the statistics of January 2012 (PDF, 1.99 MB). Some remarks on these statistics:

In January 2012, 2160 asylum applications were filed in Belgium, which implies a decrease of 11% in comparison with December 2011.
In January, the main countries of origin were Afghistan (10.7% of the total number of asylum applications), Guinea (8.6%), the DR Congo (6.6%), Bangladesh (5.7%) and Russia (5.6%). Iraq, Pakistan, Kosovo, Cameroon and Serbia complete the top 10 of the countries of origin.
In January, 225 decisions to grant refugee status and 68 decisions to grant subsidiary protection were taken.
