Asylum statistics june 2015

The CGRS released asylum figures for June 2015.

The following figures are worthy of note:

  • 2.289 asylum applications were registered in Belgium in June 2015, an increase of 34 % compared to May 2015.
  • In June, the main countries of origin were: Syria (390 applications, 17 %), Iraq (381 applications, 16.6 %), Somalia (276 applications, 12.1 %) and Afghanistan (269 applications, 11.8 %). These four countries represent more than one application out of two (57.5 %) registered in June. Russia (2.7 %), Pakistan (2.7 %), Guinea (2.6 %), Kosovo (2.5 %), undetermined nationality (2.5 %) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (2 %) complete the top 10 of countries of origin.
  • Of the 2,289 asylum applications registered in June, 403 (17.6 %) are multiple applications, mainly filed by asylum seekers from Afghanistan (47 applications), Russia (33 applications) and Iraq (23 applications).
  • In June, the total number of decisions taken by the CGRS amounted to 1,550, of which 390 decisions concerned multiple applications (184 decisions taking the application into consideration and 206 refusals to take the application into consideration).
  • Among the 1,160 other decisions (decisions on the substance) taken by the CGRS in June, there were 538 decisions to grant refugee status and 131 decisions to grant subsidiary protection. The protection rate amounted to 57.6 % (669 positive decisions out of 1,160 decisions on the substance)
  • At the end of June, the total workload of the CGRS consisted of 5,816 cases. With a normal workload of 3,900 cases, the actual backlog consists of 1,916 cases.
