Asylum statistics November 2015

  • 4,199 asylum applications were registered in Belgium in November 2015, a decrease of 12.7 % compared to October 2015.
  • In November, the main countries of origin were: Afghanistan (1,730 applications, 41.2 %), Syria (1,181 applications, 28.1 %), Iraq (474 applications, 11.3 %). Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq represent more than 80 % (80.6 %) of all asylum applications registered in Belgium in November 2015. Applicants of undetermined nationality (2.5 %), Somalia (2.3 %), DR Congo (1.6 %), Guinea (1.2 %), Iran (1.2 %), Russia (0.9 %) and Pakistan (0.9 %) complete the top 10 of countries of origin.
  • Of the 4,199 asylum applications registered in November, 146 (3.5 %) are multiple applications.
  • In November the CGRS took 1,260 decisions, of which 186 decisions concerned multiple applications (78 decisions taking the application into consideration and 108 refusals to take the application into consideration).
  • Among the 1,074 other decisions (decisions on the substance) taken by the CGRS in November, there were 565 decisions to grant refugee status and 120 decisions to grant subsidiary protection. In November 2015, the protection rate therefore amounted to 63.7 % (685 positive decisions out of 1,074 decisions on the substance).
  • At the end of November, the total caseload of the CGRS consisted of 9,739 cases. With a normal caseload of 4,500, the actual backlog consists of 5,239 cases.
