Geneva Convention

Agreement, signed on 28 July 1951 regarding the status of refugees. The Convention provides a definition of the term 'refugee' and a descripion of the way in which a country grants refugee status to persons who apply for asylum. The Convention also ascribes rights and obligations to  recognised refugees.

Gender

Refers to persecution as a result of a person’s sex. Women are the principal victims of this type of persecution. Some examples of gender-related persecution: forced marriage, honour-related violence, domestic violence, rape, forced prostitution,...
