Deze COI Focus geeft een overzicht van het geweld in Syrië waarbij er een verband is met het conflict in Gaza dat begon op 7 oktober 2023. De oorlog tussen Hamas en Israël, is een escalatie van het Israëlisch-Palestijns conflict die zich ontwikkelde tot een Israëlische militaire invasie in de Gazastrook.
Het onderzoek voor deze COI Focus gebeurde tussen december 2023 en oktober 2024.
The purpose of this report is to provide relevant information for the assessment of applications for international protection, including refugee status and subsidiary protection, and in particular for use in updating EUAA’s country guidance document on Syria.
The report covers the period of September 2023 – August 2024, and provides a limited update of selected sections previously addressed in the EUAA COI reports: Syria – Country Focus (October 2023), Syria - Targeting of individuals (September 2022) as well as an update of the EUAA COI report: Syria - Socio-economic situation in Damascus city (September 2022).
This report should be read in conjunction with the EUAA COI report: Syria – Security situation (October 2024).
The drafting of this report was finalised on 30 September 2024. Any event taking place after this date is not included in this report.

Finally, the report provides regional details about incidents, their impact on civilian life, internal displacement, and conflict related humanitarian issues.
The report builds upon preceding EASO COI reports of the same project/study with focus on Somalia: Actors, Targeted profiles and Key socio-economic indicators. They were published in the period July-September 2021. They should be read in conjunction with one another. This series of COI reports provide relevant information on international protection status determination for Somali asylum seekers and will be used in the development of EASO country guidance note on Somalia.

Details on relevant dynamics, territorial control/influence, governance as well as access to justice are also provided. Finally, the report provides an overview about the human rights conduct and abuses of main armed groups/security forces.
