Deze COI Focus beschrijft het conflict in de Two Areas in het zuiden van Soedan en analyseert de veiligheidssituatie in deze deelstaten in het licht van de ontwikkelingen sinds 2016. Daarnaast onderzoekt dit document de situatie in Khartoem van personen afkomstig uit de Two Areas, in het bijzonder (maar niet uitsluitend) leden van de etnische Nuba-gemeenschap. Het onderzoek werd afgesloten op 1 december 2018.

Het doel van dit onderzoek is een stand van zaken op te maken over de algemene situatie in Venezuela. Het onderzoek richt zich hierbij op de politieke situatie, de veiligheidssituatie en de socioeconomische situatie van het land om een zo breed mogelijke analyse te maken van de huidige stand van zaken. De situatie van specifieke profielen, zoals bijvoorbeeld journalisten of politieke activisten, vormen geen voorwerp van deze analyse. Deze COI Focus richt zich in het bijzonder op de periode van mei 2022 tot juni 2023 en is een update van het gelijknamige rapport van 30 mei 2022. Het onderzoek werd afgesloten op 26 juni 2023.

The report provides an update on and mapping of the security situation at both country and regional level, namely for the 18 administrative regions foreseen by the Somali provisional constitution as they existed before 1991. The report builds upon preceding EASO COI reports, notably the Somalia: Security Situation from September 2021, but also Actors, Targeted profiles and Key socio-economic indicators. They were published in the period July- September 2021.
The report provides an overview of the main security trends and conflict dynamics at country level in the reference period (1 July 2021 - 30 November 2022). Within this context it includes information on crucial developments that were already visible as of December 2022.
Additionally, the report provides an update on the main changes regarding state and non-state (armed) actors and their control areas or presence during the same reporting period. For the full overview of these actors see the report on Somalia: Actors. Finally, the report engages with conflict dynamics and security developments at the regional level. In this section, it provides information about incidents and their impact on civilian life, including conflict related humanitarian issues.
The drafting of this report was finalised on 3 February 2023.

The report provides background information and whenever available data about deserting and defecting pathways out of Al-Shabaab militant group. After distinguishing between the formal and the informal options, the report engages with the main challenges and consequences associated with them. Men, women, and children’s profiles, as well as forms of engagement with the group, are discussed as key determinants of potentially available pathways. Complementing this overview, which is based on research findings limited in scope and representativeness, the report relies on a pool of expert interviews which help shed some light on the unreported and underreported aspects of the issues at stake.
The reference period is from 1 July 2021 to 30 November 2022.
